Just My Imagination

On a recent trip for a funeral, we of course went through the church service and after the service was over, we headed to the cemetery to pay our last respect. I have not been to this cemetery before, but I did notice something very interesting. As we were waiting for the final service to begin, I started to walk around, I noticed that all the headstones had Hispanic surnames. I looked to the left of me, looked to the right, everywhere as far as I could see all the headstones had Hispanic names. I would see names like Cruz, Martinez, Aguirre, etc., however, right in the middle was a headstone with the name Bailey. I did not walk up to the headstone so I don’t know if someone is buried there or if they have the plot and stone ready when that person or persons goes to meet our Lord.

It got me to thinking, if someone is buried there, there may be several scenarios happening here:

1.       The person may have been buried there first then got surrounded by Hispanics and may be turning over in their grave having all these neighbors.

2.       The person saw all the Hispanics buried there and wanted to be right in the middle of them enjoying their company.

3.       The person may have married a Bailey but was really a Rios or Pena; a Hispanic and wanted to be buried with her people.

I do wonder about the different scenarios. If that person was prejudice and racist and is now surrounded by all these Hispanics, how many times a day does that person turn over in its grave. Or the smile on this person who is surrounded by people they love and who love them. I myself hope that it’s the scenario where this person is enjoying and loving their neighbors.

On a footnote, I know that person is not actually there, it’s just my imagination running wild.
